Dr. Wade Aubry is a Principal Scientific Advisor at PHE. He is also Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Core Faculty at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF. His research interests include health technology assessment, health plan and Medicare coverage decisions, state legislative coverage mandates, quality measurement, and managed care formularies. He has broad experience in clinical medicine and health care delivery as a practicing endocrinologist and former Chief of Staff for a community hospital. He has also served as medical director for a Medicare Administrative Contractor, a large Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, where he chaired its national technology assessment committee for 6 years. ther past experience includes senior positions with the Lewin Group, CTAF, CMTP, and HealthTech. He has served on several national advisory panels on medical technology, clinical research, and health care quality for CMS, NIH, AHRQ, IOM, and NCQA, where he has been an active member of its Geriatrics Measurement Advisory Panel since the 1990s. His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, and he is also co-author of a comprehensive case study on the rise and fall, and lessons, of bone marrow transplantation for breast cancer. He has served as a consultant for numerous medical device, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical companies on evidence development, value assessment, and coverage and reimbursement strategy. Dr. Aubry received his B.S. degree in biology from Stanford University and his M.D. degree from the UCLA School of Medicine.
