Rick Spear joins Simon-Kucher as Partner in Financial Services practice
Rick Spear has joined Simon-Kucher, a global consulting firm that specializes in advising clients on better growth. Spear will be based in the firm’s New York office and will lead Simon-Kucher’s North American efforts in capital markets and asset and wealth management.
Having acted as a senior advisor to Simon-Kucher and its clients since 2021, Spear will continue to help both core capital markets and asset and wealth management players, as well as related fintech vendors, refine their growth strategy and priorities.
Spear brings 40 years of consulting and industry experience in capital markets, asset management and wealth management to Simon-Kucher. He has spent about half his career advising clients and the other half helping to run companies in the capital markets and fintech space. Spear’s major focus has been growth through business model innovation and product-market fit optimization for companies serving customers both in the US and across the globe. In doing so, he’s worked across banks, exchanges/marketplaces, asset and wealth managers, as well as asset servicers, technology, and data vendors.
Prior to Simon-Kucher, Spear was a Managing Director and member of the Executive Committee at Investment Technology Group, a global equities electronic trading firm. He also was a senior executive at Knight Trading, focused on strategy and corporate development and played an operating role in both FX and fixed income. Prior to that, Spear was a Partner in charge of North America capital markets at Oliver Wyman. He started his career helping to build trading and portfolio management systems at Morgan Stanley.
Spear earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with honors and distinction from Stanford University and is an alumnus of Stanford’s GSB through the SEP program.
“I’m delighted to join Simon-Kucher after working with them as a senior advisor for the past three years. Given its deep heritage in pricing and expertise in product-market fit and customer willingness-to-pay, Simon-Kucher has a unique view on growth strategy in capital markets, asset and wealth management,” said Spear. “I’m excited to continue to partner with exceptional colleagues to drive better growth for our capital markets and related fintech clients.”
Simon-Kucher’s Financial Services practice helps identify growth opportunities and enhance their product market fit using the lens of customer value. The practice has teams across the Americas, Europe, and APAC.
